Orthodontic Treatment & Pain
I have had several teens start having headaches and jaw pain during orthodontic treatment. This doe snot mean that the orthodontics caused the start of pain. I am no anti-straight teeth! Many young people have a displaced jaw joint disc and this can be aggravated by orthodontic movements of the teeth. If pain or dysfunction is very fleeting, I would not be overly concerned. However, if the pain persists, or is coming with more intensity of frequency, I believe this should be examined. Continuing the path of the orthodontics, without pain relief, is a very slippery path indeed. We can do orthotic treatment and therapies while the braces are on. Usually, the orthodontist can finish the braces when the patient is comfortable.
